'Pop' Rising Star!! So I just got back from seeing Corrine Bailey Rae perform at the Ford Theatre in Hollywood. If the name sounds familiar just turn on your radio and listen for "Put Your Records On" and you'll be singing along in no time. Now, I bought her CD "Corrine Bailey Rae" a few weeks ago based solely on my love for the first single. Let me tell you that I knew she had been compared to Macy Gray and a little Nora Jones but let me tell you (again) that she is 110% Corrine!! It was a little chilly this evening but the stars were out and the Ford is an amphitheater that's absolutely amazing. From the first note she sang the audience was hooked -- and there were a lot of "industry" folks there and they are NEVER hooked, trust me. There wasn't a toe that wasn't tapping or a face that wasn't completely mesmerized by Corrine's presence on stage. In between songs she talked to the audience with the confidence of an old pro but the accessibility that is so lacking with the likes of Lindsays, Britneys, and Ashlees, oh my! She was charming, funny, engaging and best of all -- the girl has soul and a voice that comes out of this itty bitty little body. She was so magnificent and sang almost every song on the album. Next single is "Like a Star" which happens to be one of my favorite tracks. She even did an incredible interpretation of a Led Zeplin song -- how cool is that, my goodness gracious?!! (AND she could pull it off!!) But trust me on this one, buy the CD, listen to it twice and you'll be a card-carrying member of the "I heart Corrine" Club (I'm not just the President, I'm a fan!). This singer/songwriter/guitar player infuses '60s soul and classic Euro and American pop (and throw in some undeniable roots in Jazz) with emotional lyrics that will make you reflect inward or dance in the aisles! She thanked the American audience for making some noise for her but she's not going to have any trouble making her own noise. TTGP gives the concert 5.5 pops out of a six-pack; and her CD "Corrine Bailey Rae" gets the same. Stop reading this and go to Target (I love Target) and put her records on!
