"Knocked Up" is a Knockout

Well, well, well, my dears...in a summer of sorry-sequel-hell it was so great to actually go to a movie that had huge hype and then have that flick actually live up to it!! So is the case of the new comedy "Knocked Up" starring Gray's Anat's Katherine Heigl and relative newcomer Seth Rogen. And scene: Allison Scott (Heigl) is an up-and-coming entertainment journalist (and she works at E! where Rox has been appearing lately, natch!) whose 24-year-old life is on the fast track. But it gets seriously derailed when a drunken one-nighter with slacker Ben Stone (Rogen) results in an unwanted pregnancy. Faced with the prospect of going it alone or getting to know the baby's father, Allison decides to give the lovable doof a chance. And let me tell you this, not only is the storyline completely believable but the characters are so well developed in this movie that you feel like you know almost everyone inside and out. Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd take a hilarious turn as Allison's sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Pete. But at the heart of this movie is real people saying real things the way real people would say them in real life situations, with the smarts and wit that we all need to carry us through difficult times. Mega props go to the writer, the director and the extremely talented cast for pulling that off. Heigl is fantastic in this role which doesn't veer too far away from Izzy but shows her comedic chops which shine. It's Seth Rogen as the chubby, loser Ben that really shines -- I can't believe I'm going to say this but for a doof he's an extremely sexy, lovable and classy leading man! The movie never gets too smaltzy and there is a scene that has now been burned into my psyche of Heigl giving birth (men, many women will not have sex for weeks after that scene so make this a buddy flick!), but other wise the characters are fantastic (even the supporting characters make their mark, just watch!). The movie theater was full of laughing folks, and the storyline deals with how scarily hilarious life can be. So, oh, baby, TTGP gives "Knocked Up" a 5-pack out of a six pack of diet pop. (Quit reading this and go see it, biatches!)
