Hello, darlings. For you indie freaks you know all about the success of indie pop/rock darlings Rilo Kiley (it's a band, old farties). Well, now they've finally hit the big time with a big 'o record deal with Warner Bros. Now, since I have absolutely no problem, as you know, dropping names like Amy Weinhouse drops acid (oh, "allegedly")...here is Rox's connection with Rilo Kiley and its fab frontwoman Jenny Lewis. I used to work with her sister Leslie and am bff with her now. What's disgusting about the Lewis clan is that they all are gorgeous and talented and it's absolutely DIS-GUS-TING. Anywho, I've been following Jenny's career via my friend Les and am so pleased they are getting some recognition in the "mainstream." Now, for their first major label release, Rilo Kiley walks the fine line between true and sellout without ever selling out -- IMAGINE THAT!! The CD is called "Under the Black Light" and is a mix between No Doubt, Sarah McLachlan and Jewel (when she used to make good music). There is pop, a bit of dance, some fab ballads, your typical song about Cybersex (fabulously crafted in "15"), and heartbreak ("Breakin' Up"). Under the Blacklight has withstood Rox's if-it-has-at-least-5-great-tracks-then-it's-a-must-hear....and here they are darlings (in no order): Breakin' Up, Silver Lining, Under the Blacklight, Give a Little Love, Dreamworld, and Dejalo. So, if you're looking for an interesting CD that has a bit of everything -- including some poignant lyrics if you get behind the purposefully bubbly delivery of Jenny...then this one's for you. It's one of the most enjoyable CDs I've purchased in a very long time, folks. I'm just sad it's only about 40 minutes long!! TTGP gives "Under the Blacklight" a 4.5 cans of pop out of a six-pack. Well, done, Jenny. Can't wait to ride your coattails into Gwen-Stefani-Stardom!! Smooches!
