Rox is a sap. Yes, we all know. Well, I just heard a story from a friend of mine and wanted to share. He was having dinner with DMC a couple of years ago and they really got deep into conversation. DMC told my buddy John, who asked what inspired him, that Harry Chapin's "Cats in a Craddle" song always was an anthem for him but he never really knew why. And being a stree rapper, he was made fun of for liking such "white" music. As you probably know, "Cats" is about a son and father talking and trying to figure out when/if they'll get together. He was working on his autobiography and asked his parents about his early childhood because he didn't understand or remember much of it. At this time he was in his 30s and they told him that he actually had been adopted! Thus, perhaps, the signficance of "Cats in the Craddle." DMC at some point went into a deep depression and a life of drugs. He tried to commit suicide but as he was about to Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" came on the radio. Flash forward to the Grammys and DMC meets Sarah McLachlan whose "Angel" had just become a huge hit. He told Sarah that her music literally saved his life. They began talking and McLachlan looks at him and says, "You know, I haven't told a lot of people but I was adopted too." They then got together to remake "Cats in the Craddle" but no label got behind the single. Rox loved the story and found the video and I think you'll find it quite emotional after knowing the story behind it...
