"Mama" Meryl

Oh, Popsters! I guess everyone is getting into the Broadway-to-Tinsel Town act now that breakthrough movie musicals such as "Chicago" and "Dreamgirls" have seen tremendous success. Currently in the works is the movie version of the "global phenomenon" known as "Mama Mia." If you haven't heard about it please give me 3,000 push-ups and a silver lamet jumpsuit pronto. Basically the media shy but business savvy men behind ABBA fame figured out a way to make a quick $500 million by creating a musical around their hit tunes. These timeless songs such as Dancing Queen, Voulez-Vous, and Take a Chance on Me are woven into a rocky and manipulated tale of love, laughter and friendship. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings 3 men from her mother's past back to the Greek island paradise they last visited 20 years ago. The only reason people like it is because it's fun to guess how the hellagood they're going to turn the plot in order to incorporate the next groovy song. I saw it in London when it first came out. I toe-tapped and then basically forgot about it. Nonetheless, my interest is piqued again now that Meryl is filming the part of the trampy -- yet talented -- mum in the movie version. Will this spectacle go the way of Oscar darling "Chicago" or will Meryl get the only nomination from the movie since she is, well, Meryl (that would be her 15th nomination as her current "Devil" nomination is her 14th -- doing the math, kiddies?). Meryl Mia we definitely will take a chance on you! Rox is feathering the hair as we speak...
