Roxie's Tuesday CD Review: James Morrison

Oh, the Brits are coming, the Brits are coming, Popsters!! Yes, we all know Rox loves KT Tunstall and Corinne Bailey Rae and now I am in love with a new UK import -- James Morrison. This white kid, who grew up very poor in the UK with a single mum and a couple of brothers, is a mix between Ottis Redding, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder and Jason Mraz (and he kind of looks like a cross between James Blunt and Coldplay's Chris Martin). Anywho, his new CD "Undiscovered" is absolutely fab, darlings. When you have a CD that has a raspy-voiced pop/soul man (he had a horrible whooping cough as a child and has vocal chord damage from it), tamberines, horns, piano, guitars, hand-claps and a whole lotta songs with soul AND hooks you know you've come across something different yet accessible. His first single is catching on and it's called "You Give Me Something." One of my fave tracks is the opener "Under The Influence" complete with rousing choir, tamberines and a lot of heart and soul. Other gems are "Wonderful World," "The Pieces Don't Fit Anymore," "The Letter," "This Boy" and "Better Man." Yes, it passes Roxie's test of having at least four great tracks. He's cool, he's raspy, he writes his own songs and is one of the best pop/soul writers I've heard in a while...it's hard to have soul in a pop tune anymore but that's what he crafts whether breaking your heart or moving your feet. Discover this new guy ASAP. Rox gives this refreshing "Undiscovered" 5 pops out of six.
