It would be so wrong of the Roxster not to celebrate one of the biggest media icons in Pop Culture who currently is celebrating his 50th year in broadcasting (no, not Geraldo)...Larry King. He's interviewed some of the most important political and entertainment pop icons in history and does it always while wearing suspenders. Now, Rox has a sorted past with his current wife, Shawn Southwick, who is a mere 26 years younger than The King. Years ago in Roxie's former life I was helping to launch a chain of beauty salons. At the grand opening of one such establishment we had the then-little-known Shawn Southwick attend as our "celeb" (she did some broadcasting and hosting of b-level entertainment shows back in the pre-King days). Why was she there, you ask, dear one? She and the other King's wife Priscilla Presley were launching a new line of hair extensions (it was ground-breaking back then and waaaay before the weave was ever around) that the salons were carrying. Flash forward to about two weeks ago and I run into Ms. Southwick in Beverly Hills (it was around 6 p.m. so Larry already was in bed). I walk up to her and reintroduce myself to her. She remembered the Roxster immediately and added, "I made MILLIONS off that hair!" Then she added, "And didn't I spill a pigs-in-a-blanket down your front at the party?" Ah, yes, you did, my dear darling. Glad you remembered and here is my dry cleaning bill for $1 million. Anywho, I love Larry and Shawn and I salute 50 Years of suspenders, young wives, and bringing pop culture to the masses. Love ya, baby! Rox
