Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda were the weekend's biggest box office "Sex" kittens, darlings. Meow.
The big-screen "Sex and the City" stilettoed to a $55.7 million opening weekend, far exceeding Hollywood's box-office expectations.
Analysts had figured Paramount's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" might repeat atop the box office, but it slipped to second-place with $46 million in its second weekend. The film's 11-day domestic total jumped to $216.9 million.
Released under Warner's New Line Cinema, "Sex and the City" had the best debut ever for an R-rated comedy, topping the $45.1 million opening of "American Pie 2."
It's great to see that a movie without teen "stars" and without a lot of special effects (although Kristin Davis hasn't aged a bit...hmmmm...) can still turn people on (granted it was almost exclusively a female/gay man crowd, but we came out in gaggles, darlings, gaggles!). 4 cheers to Sarah Jessica, Kim, Kristin and Cynthia for being the real ones to bring SEXyback...
