Hello, Popettes. Can you believe it's almost 2007??! Oy vey as Bette would say. We now start a series of breakout artists, comebacks, has-beens/will be has-beens, best and worst, blah, blah, blah. Today TTGP is covering breakout artists of 2006 -- although Helen Mirren would be a breakout artist she's been around for a while so I'm talking about fresh-faces to the world, Popsters. So, in alpha order: The First Annual TTGP Breakout Artists Awards go to: "Where's Olive?" That's right, Little Miss Sunshine herself Abigail Breslin. Even with stomach padding to make her look a little pudgy this girl was one of the sleekest actors on our screens this year. If you're not a believer watch the scene in the hotel room with Alan Arkin who plays her crazy grandpa and her asking if she's anything but perfect....the emotional movement between heartbreak and self-assurance is unbelievable. And did you see her turn on Grey's Anatomy as well? She's a total ray of sunshine. Next Award goes to Bond, James-So-Undeniably-Hot Bond: Daniel Craig. He's hot. He has a huge pistol. 'nough said. TTGP Breakout Artist Award also goes to the prettiest Ugly Betty around America Ferrera -- if you saw "Real Women Have Curves" then you knew who this mega-talent was before the success of the so-so "Betty." However, this actor can hold her own with anyone she shares the screen with all the while stealing it from them with elegance, grace and inner as well as outer beauty! Speaking of scence-stealers ... of course I'm going to mention the rafter-shattering performance by Jennifer Hudson in "Dreamgirls" (you saw that one coming, didn't you?). When an Idol "loser" can steal scene after scene from media-hyped Beyonce, over-the-top Eddie and entertainment-mogul Jamie you know this girl really is a star! And the final TTGP Breakout Artist of the Year is my new friend Corinne Bailey Rae. Big album, three Grammy nominations and a soul and spirit that light up any room she's in! Good luck at this year's Grammy Awards, CBR. Congrats to all of you Roxin' Popsters! We want to see more of you (especially you, Daniel) in 2007!!
