The Godfather of Soul is Dead

One of the best James Brown stories I've heard was from a producer friend of mine who works at one of the national entertainment shows. She was doing an interview with Mr. Brown about his autobiography that he released a couple of years ago. The first question to him was, naturally, about his autobiography and what he felt about writing it. He quickly answered, "All lies! Lies, lies." A follow-up question had to be made, of course, and that was, "But Mr. Brown, didn't you WRITE your autobiography?" His brilliant response, "Never read it." God Bless You, Godfather, for never being cookie cutter and for paving the way for every funkster out there. With my utmost respect, Roxie.

Statement from The Recording Academy
"Few musical artists of our time wear the term 'legend' more suitably than three-time GRAMMY winner James Brown. His unique style, persona, and array of ground-breaking recordings have influenced musicians and music fans worldwide. We were proud to have him grace the GRAMMY stage only two years ago where he continued to show why he will be forever remembered as The Godfather of Soul. James Brown's legacy will be with us forever. "
