In what The Recording Academy is calling "an historic GRAMMY moment," the Police (Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Andy Summers) are reuniting and performing together for the first time on the Grammys when they open the 49th Awards telecast on Feb. 11. How cool is that? For some reason I think they're going to sing "Rox-anne" but I could be biased. Now, last year's opening act with Madonna and Gorillaz was totally cool and interesting. Even the duet with Prince and Beyonce a few years ago was pretty amazing. However, the Roxster turned the channel when Simon & Garfunkel were "reunited" on the Grammys a couple of years ago (bo-ring). However, with five Grammy Awards to their list of accolades, the Police, arguably are one of the most famous bands in the world (and Sting's still H-O-T), creating a purely original sound by infusing reggae with pop and rock — a sound that apparently will be heard around the world from the Grammy stage for the first time, Popsters.
The Recording Academy also announced new presenters to the lineup which include current Lifetime Achievement Award honoree Joan Baez, two-time GRAMMY winner Melissa Etheridge, Golden Globe winner Jennifer Hudson (L-O-V-E her!! And she's not singing because she's not nominated for a Grammy -- YET! Sidebar: "Dreamgirls" soundtrack will be eligible for next year's Grammy season!!!), GRAMMY winner Queen Latifah, three-time GRAMMY winner Chris Rock, and 24-time GRAMMY winner Stevie Wonder (24 Grammys? Lawdy, lawdy, Stevie, you truly are a, well, wonder).

Previously announced performers include Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé (rumor has it that she's going to be performing "Listen" from "Dreamgirls"), Mary J. Blige, the Dixie Chicks, Gnarls Barkley, John Legend with John Mayer and Corinne Bailey Rae, Ludacris, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Justin Timberlake (solo performance and with the winner of the "My Grammy Moment" competition) and Carrie Underwood. Previously announced presenters include The Black Eyed Peas, Ciara, Nelly Furtado, Terrence Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, P!nk and Rihanna.
The music industry's kudo fest takes place live on Sunday, Feb. 11, at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on CBS at 8 p.m. (ET/PT). Am hoping the Chicks pull off an Album of the Year win, Popettes (oh, all you people in the midwest quit your conservative bitching...).
