So there used be this thing called ... making a really good album. I know, you may have to look it up in a dictionary or thesaurus "ma-king a real-ly gud al-bum"! And after listening to the disasters of Britney and Duran Duran recently Rox lost almost all hope for there being an artist out there who 1) wants to really create art vs. hits, 2) wants to do better than the last time instead of the same and 3) wants to bare a little more of his or her self. Well, that trifecta has been accomplished by the ever-evolving Alicia Keys with her third album "As I Am." It is part Beethoven, part Carol King, part Gladys Knight and all Alicia. There isn't a dud in the bunch but the masterpieces include "Superwoman," current hit "No ONe," "Lesson Learned (with John Mayer), "Prelude to a Kiss," and "Sure Looks Good To Me." It's hard to imagine how someone could mix funk, r&b, and soul with the hook of a pop tune but Keys does it masterfully. She even talks about life, strife and a "significant other" so perhaps she's evolving as an open book as well. Look for this album scooping up the Grammy Awards in 2009 (it was released after the deadline for consideration for February '08). Ms. Alicia, we at TTGP bow before you and give our highest rating to date of 5.5 sodas out of a six-pack of diet pop. We love "As I Am" just as you are!! Darlings, take a listen to this and maybe you'll learn something about Ms. Keys and life in general.
