Oh, lovers, if I had to choose between "Young Frankenstein" or "Blazzing Saddles" I'm not sure which would top Rox's list because both are two of the most hilarious and inappropriate movies ever made -- thankfully. Unfortunately, the new stage musical of "Young Frankenstein" too is inappropriate but only because it's boring. Now, the bright spots, of course, are Megan Mullaly as the role of Dr. Frankenstein's (pronounced "Fronkenshteen", thank you very much)bitchy fiancee and ultimate sex toy of "the creature with the mighty, well, zipper, um, er, in his, um, neck." Hard to out-do Madeline Kahn but Mullaly is hilarious in this role with just a pinch of Karen Walker thrown in -- oh, and that singing voice! And SCTV alumn Andrea Martin plays the Frau which was brilliantly played in the film by Cloris Leachmen -- Martin steals every scene she's in. What an underappreciated talent she is, Popsters! The dude who played psycho pharmacist George on Desperate Housewives is the Gene Wilder character and he does a fine job but frankly the songs must have been written by Abby Normal herself, darlings, because they are bo-ring. Oh, I'm sorry, I fell asleep even writing about the score. All of the best lines that Rox can recite by heart fell flat because it's such an iconic movie -- much more so than "The Producers" so die-hard fans are really going to have issues. I must admit I also did not like The Producers, the musical, either. And after sitting through "Legally Blonde" without carving out my own corneas and barely stayin' alive during "Saturday Night Fever: The Musical" I am just wondering what will hit Broadway next? Porky's: The Musical? Nightmare on Elm Street: The Musical? Mylanta, Georgia, is there no creativity left on the Great White Way?? Ticket buyers haven't been scared off by the frightening reviews of "Young" but word-of-mouth should bury the dead soon. TTGP gives "Young Frankenstein: The Musical" two diet pops out of a six-pack. And that's simply because of Mullaly's, well, pipes. RIP.
