We Buy Britney

So tomorrow the official tally of this past week's CD sales will be published and by all estimates and indicators it doesn't really matter that Britney's life is a trainwreck -- and perhaps it actually has helped -- because she will debut at #1 (her 5th #1 album, mind you) with approximately 330,000 albums sold. Now, that doesn't come anywhere near Ms. "Before He Cheats" Underwood and her 1/2 million albums sold of her second CD in her first week but she also has had numerous hits over the past two years and has kept things relatively squeaky clean. Brit hasn't had a new album out in more than four years and two kids. Does this mean that radio will actually start playing her songs ("Gimme More" stalled at #17 on the charts dispite it selling gazillions of downloads)? No, it just means there are a lot of people who still want her to make music. Second week sales will be the true test of how solid her dancin' feet are on the charts, however. It could be "gimme more" or "hit me baby one more time."
