Oh, my, popsterinos y popsterinas, if the slew of new music singles by newbies and not-so-newbies is any indication we are going to have a Roxin' Summer of Smashin' Tunes!! Let me explain, darlings ... I just heard the new Maroon5 single...QUIT JUDGING ME AND THEM!! Yes, they've created some of the most mind-numbingly-singable songs in their three years since breaking with "This Love" but, lovers, this new single is a dancin', retro (that's so "in" it's almost out, isn't it?) and it is going to be one of THE songs of the spring and summer. The boys have been busy, busy reinventing themselves (Madonna, what?) and Rox cannot wait for the entire album. The single "Makes Me Wonder" is as dancable as any single without alienating alt pop, adult pop or kiddie pop stations! If you haven't heard it, get in your ears ASAP. They'll be performing it live on Kids' Choice Awards on March 31 -- suck it up...they're doing interactive sliming, for goodness gravy!! Listen to it, love it, live it and uncover the "new" Maroon5-acious! The next "Roxie's Singles of the Week" is, of course, by bad-girl, no, INSANE girl (love her) Amy Winehouse and it, natch, is called "Rehab" from her superb "Back to Black" album. Winehouse is a mix between Etta James, Billy Holiday, Taylor Dayne and Bette Midler (listen to it, you'll know what I mean) ... this single has early Tina Turner written all over it with horns, retro soul beats and incredibly serious lyrics but you'll get lost in the catchiness of the tune and the fact that it sounds like NOTHING on the radio! Amazing summer fare as well. Honorable mention this week goes to Ms. Aguilera whose "Candyman" is one of my fave tracks on her "Back to Basics" ode to old-school jazz. It's a dirty little ditty that has the vibe of the Andrew Sisters in a Whore House. Absolutely fabulous, my darlings. Enjoy them all...and wait for CD reviews coming soon. Here's to those artists who choose to be different!! Roxie: Out!
