Well, it just keeps getting more interesting, folks. As of right now the Writers Guild is no closer to coming to an agreement than they were three weeks ago. That being said, there are some major shifts happening.
*Leno, Kimmel and Conan are going back on the air January 2 without any of their writers. What this means is that 1) more improv from the hosts and/or 2) more time to fill up with musical acts and guests. Therefore, we will keep an eye on what is happening as there may be an opportunity to pitch more spokespeople after the first of the year. No guarantees but we'll keep you updated.
*Letterman owns his production company so he in reality could "strike a deal" between his production company and his writers and bring everyone back on board. This is pending.
*Golden Globes and Oscars -- these annual telecasts truly are in trouble for a couple of reasons: the Writers Guild says that no Screenwriters will attend either event; they also say that no clips of movies or TV shows with any dialogue can be used; furthermore as the Screen Actors Guild readies itself for its own strike in June, they've banded together with the writers and have announced that anyone who is a member of the Screen Actors Guild (which basically is everyone) will boycott both the Golden Globes AND the Oscars, if a settlement isn't reached prior to the telecasts. The networks cannot cancel the telecasts because they've sold premium advertising space so everyone is up in arms right now.
More details soon so stay tuned.
