"Hypocrite" Gets a 5-Pack from Pop

So I just finished reading Susan Gilman's hilarious memoir titled "Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress." Now, you may say, Rox, is that total chick lit trash? Well, I suppose it's marketed as chick lit but if you are a woman, a writer/journalist, a Jew and/or a gay man then this book is for you. The subtitle is "Tales of Growing Up Groovy and Clueless" -- I mean, how can this not be spectacular? It's Gilman's tales of growing up with hippy parents as a pudgy girl just trying to figure out how to fit in, be an individual, find her sexuality (by that Rox means "when to lose it, when to use it" vs. sexual orientation ... Gilman's straight and she's freakin' hilarious), and figure out what she wants to be when she grows up (even as an adult). Everyone can relate to the many phases her parents go through as she grows into adulthood, as well as the many issues that people who don't fit the perfect white-bread mould have to endure or simply choose to endure because we don't realize that none of the heartache that we put ourselves through really is worth it (but tell that to a 12 year-old and see whether or not he or she will become completely deflated in one swift emotional kick!). Gilman is witty and smart-assy and yet can be at the same time incredibly insightful and profound. Give it until the second chapter to really get into it, and, at times, you'll think she's actually telling your story. I mean a Jewish family that celebrates Christmas and a pudgy girl that worships Mick Jagger -- such a holiday treat. "Hypocrite" has been on the NY Times best-seller list and would make the perfect mental get-away for your Thanksgiving trip/fiasco with your family and/or the perfect gift for your mother (she'll freak out thinking you're trying to tell her something about her June Cleaver-esque take on her own parenting skills -- could be fun to help set the mood for extended time together during the already-stressful holiday season of peace and goodwill toward parents). Anywho, Pop gives it a 5-Pack of Pop (out of six pack). Enjoy the slay-ride 'cause, Gilman, Rox loves the outfit! Merry Hanukkah.
