Soundtrack to "Hairspray" More than a Tease

Hello, lovers. Well, of course I just purchased the soundtrack to the motion picture that is based on the Broadway musical which was based on a motion picture "Hairspray." My goodness, gravy. And let me tell you this, if you listen to this soundtrack and aren't dancing all the way through then you are dead inside. Rotting from folicles, dare I say. And how can you go wrong with John Travolta (in drag), Michelle Pfeiffer (in bitchy), Queen Latifah (in blonde), newcomer Nikki Blonsky (in the lead), Zac Efron (in leather) and a whole lot more mousketeer-esque young stars?! The soundtrack from the Broadway musical is pure 50s/60s pop, gospel and soul that will make your, well, hair stand on end (in a good way). The tunes are so infectious that you might get a cavity if you don't listen to the lyrics about segregation (whether due to skin color or too much flab) close enough. It's a joy ride from start to finish with a fantastic rendition of "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now" (which sadly is not in the movie) that is sung by all of the over-sized Tracy's (newcomer Nikki Blonsky, Broadway's first "Tracy" Marissa Jaret Winokur and original movie "Tracy" Rikki Lake). You won't be able to stop the beat with this one, darlings. TTGP gives "Hairspray" a 5-pack out of six for how well it all gels together. Hugs.
